This course will allow 6th-8th grade teachers deepen 
their understanding of the ELA GA Milestones. 
Participants will analyze test blueprints, writing 
rubrics, checklists, and achievement level descriptors 
with a focus on precision instruction and student 
performance outcomes. Using a “beginning with the 
end in mind” approach, participants will study 
released items, scoring samplers, and assessment 
guides to refine instructional planning, strengthen 
alignment, and elevate the rigor of daily classroom 
practice. Through collaborative analysis and planning, 
educators will identify high-impact instructional 
moves that move students from access to mastery. 
Building on foundational understanding from Year 1, 
participants will move beyond familiarity to strategic 
application.

As part of the Making ELA Visible series, this 
professional learning course is designed to support 
3rd–5th grade teachers, coaches, administrative staff, 
district leaders, etc. develop a comprehensive 
understanding of the ELA Georgia Milestones 
Assessment and how to incorporate those best 
practices into the classroom day-to-day. Participants 
will become familiar with the test blueprints, writing 
rubrics, writing checklists, and achievement level 
descriptors. With a "beginning with the end in mind" 
approach, educators will examine sample test 
questions, item and scoring samplers, and assessment 
guides. They will then collaborate to determine the 
most effective instructional strategies.
