As an administrator, do you know what your Special 
Education teachers are required to do under the 
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)? The 
answer is Specially Designed Instruction (SDI). This course 
equips administrators with a deep understanding of SDI, 
its role in supporting students with disabilities, and the 
key components needed for compliance and effectiveness 
in the classroom. Throughout the course, administrators 
will explore what SDI looks like in practice and how it is 
tailored to individual student needs. You will learn how to 
evaluate and support Special Education teachers by 
recognizing key SDI strategies and how they are applied. 
Participants will also leave with practical “look-fors” and 
resources to strengthen instructional support for diverse 
learners. By the end of the course, administrators will 
understand SDI, how to evaluate its implementation, and 
how to support teachers in delivering effective, 
individualized instruction for students with disabilities.

Adolescent struggling readers often face complex and 
layered challenges—gaps in foundational skills, limited 
vocabulary and background knowledge, reduced reading 
stamina, and diminished confidence. This professional 
learning session is designed specifically for special 
education teachers who support middle and high school 
students with diverse learning needs. Participants will 
deepen their understanding of the key components of 
adolescent literacy, including word recognition, fluency, 
vocabulary, comprehension, and motivation. The session 
will focus on identifying the root causes of reading 
difficulties and aligning targeted, evidence-based 
interventions to student needs. Emphasis will be placed 
on explicit instruction, scaffolded supports, and strategies 
that promote independence while maintaining access to
