This course equips teachers and instructional coaches 
with practical, research-based strategies to 
strengthen writing instruction in the classrooms. This 
session focuses on building writing capacity through a 
structured, scaffolded approach that deepens both 
composition skills and reading comprehension. 
Participants will explore how sentence-level and 
paragraph-level instruction supports students in 
analyzing texts, organizing ideas, and expressing 
thinking clearly. Emphasis will be placed on writing 
across content areas — including ELA, science, social 
studies, and math — so students learn to write as a 
way of learning. Educators will leave with ready-to-
use strategies, content-aligned writing routines, and a 
practical framework to move students from early 
writing development to confident, structured mastery.

This session explores how morphology, vocabulary, 
comprehension, and writing work together as 
essential components of evidence‑based literacy 
instruction grounded in the Science of Reading. 
Participants will examine how these strands intersect 
to support students’ language development and 
reading proficiency across grade levels. While 
Structured Literacy is often associated with early 
elementary instruction, this course emphasizes that its 
principles benefit all learners—not just students in 
grades K–3. Through practical strategies, modeling, 
and collaborative analysis, educators will learn how to 
apply structured, explicit, and systematic practices 
that strengthen decoding, language comprehension, 
and written expression.
